Making ends meet shouldnt be a full time job.

Life is getting too expensive for many families in Lynnwood. From rent and food to healthcare, transportation, and childcare, people are working hard but still struggling to keep up. It shouldn’t be this way—making ends meet shouldn’t be a full time job.

Everyone deserves to have a safe home, healthy food, access to care when they’re sick, and a good place for their kids to learn. As your Councilmember, I’ve been focused on lower costs and make sure families have what they need to live well and thrive.

Better safe than sorry.

True public safety starts with prevention, education, and being prepared—not just reacting when something happens. We need to invest in programs that help early, especially for our youth, and offer strong mental health and support services.

On City Council, I’ve worked to expand resources that help people before they’re in crisis. Better safe than sorry, it's better to prevent problems than fix them later, so we need a safety plan that focuses on wellness—where everyone, especially young people, can feel safe and supported.

Safety also means taking care of the places we love—like art, parks, and clean air and water. These are the spaces where we come together, feel better, and build community. When we make sure Lynnwood has strong prevention, helpful resources, and safe spaces for everyone, we reduce harm and help our city grow into a place where all people can live well and thrive.

More chances to succeed.

Opportunity should be within reach for everyone in Lynnwood—not just a few. We need an economy where workers are valued, small businesses thrive, and everyone has more chances to succeed.

For the last four years, I’ve been pushing for better wages, more workforce training, and supporting teachers, gig workers, and small businesses. I’ve stayed focused on creating real opportunities that change lives but there is still so much more to do.

We need to keep raising livable wages, supporting unions, and expanding training programs. We also need to make sure everyone has a chance to have their voice heard and help shape the future. Let’s make sure opportunity flows in every direction, because when one of us succeeds, we all do.

    • Co-Founder of the Lynnwood City Youth Council

MEET JOSH BINDA

Josh Binda is a first-generation African American leader, born in Section 8 housing in Providence, Rhode Island, to a family who fled civil war in Liberia and came to the United States through an international refugee lottery. His family eventually found their way to Lynnwood, Washington—and it’s been home ever since.

At just 21 years old, Josh made history as the youngest African American ever elected in Washington State. While he remains one of the youngest elected officials in the country, his focus has never been on his age—it’s been on the results he’s delivered.

For the past four years, Josh has proudly served as a Lynnwood City Councilmember and now serves as the Council Vice President. He is a community advocate and a voice for the people—especially those who have too often been overlooked or left behind.

Having experienced firsthand how systems can fail those who need them most, Josh stepped up to lead with a vision rooted in real solutions and opportunity for every family—regardless of their zip code or background.

Front page of the Mukilteo Beacon newspaper dated January 18, 2023, featuring the headline "It takes strength to love. It takes courage to love" with images related to a speech at Olympic View Middle School about social justice and Black Lives Matter.

His mission is clear: move Lynnwood forward through affordability, opportunity, and safety. That means pushing for housing people can actually afford, investing in mental health resources for students, and creating neighborhoods where every family can thrive. It means raising wages, supporting small businesses, and ensuring that young people have real pathways to success.
